Imagined city

Every abstract image can make us wonder what it represents or what it is trying to communicate. But the formal and pictorial characteristics of an artistic design can also engage all our attention, demanding to be viewed purely from an aesthetic perspective.
Verbeelde Stad (‘Imagined City’) is a personal visual research of the centre of Ghent in order to attempt a ‘reading’ of public space with the same poetic gaze. I have tried to translate this rather subjective and fragmentary experience of my urban environment into personal urban views through the use of an abstract style and a personal method. Browsing the book is just like a walk in the city. Every neighbourhood is when entering it preceded with an existing poem about that specific corner of Ghent.
